For parents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents, Canada offers several pathways for family reunification. Choosing the right option depends on the family’s specific needs and circumstances, making it essential for families to carefully review which pathway best suits their situation.
One of the most popular and efficient options for reuniting parents with their children temporarily is the Super Visa. This program, while not a direct route to permanent residency or citizenship, allows parents and grandparents to stay in Canada for extended periods. With the flexibility of a multiple-entry visa, parents can live with their families for up to five years at a time. This long-term visit option makes the Super Visa highly desirable, as many parents prefer extended stays to fully experience life in Canada.
The Super Visa offers parents the chance to visit, live, and integrate into Canadian society before deciding whether to pursue permanent residency. It’s an excellent way for families to explore life in Canada without the immediate commitment of immigration.
However, the Super Visa application must be completed outside of Canada and requires proof of at least one year of medical insurance from a Canadian insurance provider. Additionally, unlike other visa programs, dependents cannot be included in the Super Visa application.
For applicants from visa-exempt countries, the Super Visa is particularly advantageous, as it allows them to stay in Canada for up to five years with ETA.
It’s important to note that several factors are considered before the approval of a Super Visa, including financial requirements, the parent’s ties to their home country, and the overall purpose of their visit.
